Four Wheelers left the pick up point at Itteringham, but two were out only for the morning. With the weather looking decidedly worse to the west, it was decided to scrap the original plan and head east. Robin’s intended morning ride was curtailed even further when his rear mech sheared off, forcing him to ‘phone for motorised assistance. He was last seen carrying his bike over a shoulder heading for the Cromer road to be picked up; we hope he didn’t have to wait long.
The route out was via Wickmere, Alby Common, Suffield, Felmingham, Swanton Hill, Worstead, Honing and East Ruston to Cart Gap, where we were lucky to sit out one of the heaviest and most prolonged showers.
The shorter route homeward tacked in and out of the increasingly strong north-westerly, through Happisburgh, Ridlington Street, Crostwick, Honing and Worstead to the split at Swanton Abbott.
Conditions: Showery rain, the worst of which came after 14.30. A strong and rising north west wind.
Itteringham to Itteringham: 49 miles/ Max: 66 miles.
