With Trevor laid up with a cold virus, only four riders left the pick-up at Banningham for this weekend’s run out to the coast at Cart Gap. The outward route headed north and north east by way of Suffield, Antingham and Trunch, before swinging south eastwards into a chilly breeze coming in off the sea, following a familiar route through Edingthorpe, Ridlington and Happisburgh to the popular Smallsticks cafe, where Geoff and Nick arrived to make the bunch up to six.
The return leg picked up a lot of very quiet lanes via Lessingham and Brunstead Grange to Honing and then on to Worstead, Swanton Abbott, Felmingham, Suffield, Alby Common, Thurgarton and Bessingham for the final split, with two continuing north to PC and Sheringham.
The wind-assisted homeward ride was marked by several half-wheeling competitions and a few lone breaks, as some Wheelers seemed to experiencing an early feel of Spring.
Conditions: still cold with a chilly breeze, but warmer than of late.
One puncture – (a classic Norfolk flint)
PC to PC: 60 miles/ Banningham to Banningham: 43 miles/ Max: 71 miles.
Nick, Malcolm, John S, Harvey, Geoff and Brian all had a decent ride out today.
PS: – to last week’s report (14/1): Brian P waited until the morning blizzard abated and then rode straight to the cafe, ending up with 30 miles and thereby staking an early claim for club runs champion of 2017.
