Peloton a deux vitesses:
Seven Wheelers left Itteringham for the club run to Yaxham Waters. However, two of the bunch soon headed off on the scenic route at a more sedate rhythm, while the larger group maintained a strong pace into the rising westerly to the busy cafe where everyone came together again for some welcome refreshments.
The main route out was via Felthorpe, Attlebridge and Weston Longville, before crossing the busy A 47 at Rotten Row and nipping through the back lanes to the south of Mattishall to break the wind.
Homeward bound was along Cutthroat Lane, the Stone Road, Etling Green, Elsing, Sparham, Eade’s Mill, Booton and Cawston to the split at Oulton Street.
One rider took the tourist route back, while another flew off down the Saxthorpe Road instead of the Plumstead Road and would probably have been the other side of Wymondham by nightfall if the leader hadn’t chased him down and turned him round.
By some strange serendipitous chance all seven Wheelers arrived at the final split at the same time!
Conditions: a soft day with showery rain in the afternoon.
Wheelers out this weekend: Barry, Brian, Geoff, Harvey, Malcolm (Velo-brillant), Nick, Robin.
PC to PC: 61 miles/ Itteringham to Itteringham: 47 miles/ Max: 73 miles.
