This weekend’s club run was to Gressenhall Workhouse, where, thankfully, the refreshments were vastly superior to the thin gruel that had sustained the former inmates. After a long absence from this venue, the general consensus was that the Saturday Wheelers would be back soon.
One rider was carrying so many bananas that he assumed one of them was his pump. On discovering his error, he had to race back home, pick up a pump and then chase down the other six members, catching them at Itteringham – (Today’s top tip: don’t buy straight bananas).
The route out into a stiff south westerly was via Cawston, the Witchinghams, Lenwade, Bylaugh, Robertson Barracks and Hoe. The shorter return leg was up to Worthing watermill and then Billingford, Bintree, Foulsham, Themelthorpe, Kerdiston, Odessa, Heydon Park and Itteringham for the first split and then Wolterton for the final parting of the ways.
Kevin, Nick, Harvey, Robin, Brian, Trevor, Malcolm were out today.
Conditions: Cool start, with a rising wind and increasing cloud. Rain threatened through the middle of the day, but it turned out a glorious sunny tailwind afternoon.
PC to PC: 59 miles/ Itteringham to Itteringham: 45 miles/ Max: 71 miles.
Changes discussed: – some of the regulars have been thinking about a switch to 9.45 starts from Pretty Corner from April to October. Based on the limited number of votes cast so far, it is 50% for status quo and 50% for change. This is complicated a bit by those who favour 10.00 Sunday. There is still plenty of time to express an opinion; any change this year would commence in May.
