Bruce McEwan Memorial Ride, 3/6

Seven riders assembled at Felmingham church gate, where Bruce’s wife, Heather, came out to chat to some of her old friends from the Wheelers.

There was a surprise welcome return by Scott, who had received the all clear this week after his course of chemotherapy. Scott is to undergo a serious operation five weeks from now and everyone will be rooting for him.

The weekend Wheelers were shocked to hear that former club run captain John H suffered a serious chute last weekend and it is hoped that a full recovery is achieved a.s.a.p.

The full route from Pretty Corner and back was Gresham, Sustead, Alby Common, Suffield, Felmingham, Skeyton, Swanton Abbott, East Ruston, Brumstead Common, Ingham, Calthorpe Street and Sea Palling to the break at Waxham – on to Lessingham, Ingham Hall, the mappis of narrow lanes to the west of Happisburgh, Ridlington Street, Witton Bridge, Edingthorpe Heath, Swafield, Bradfield, Gunton Station, Thorpe Market, Hanworth, Sustead and Gresham.

After a couple of early light showers the weather improved steadily towards a glorious fresh, bright afternoon.

Pretty Corner to Pretty Corner: 62 miles/ Felmingham to Felmingham: 44 miles/ Maximum: 80 miles.

Geoff – (back on his fast bike following excellent service from Black Bikes); Robin – (warming up for the Norwich ‘100’); Ian – (warming up for his night ride to Swaffham); Scott – (riding surprisingly strongly) + Trevor, Malcolm and Harvey.
