An unauthorised deflation (UD) only half a mile from Pretty Corner led to a change of plan. A quick decision was made that one rider should push on to the pick-up point to alert the Banningham contingent to the delay and to lead them back to Erpingham to rendezvous with the PC punters. It was agreed that Guist Post Office Tea Room would be substituted for the scheduled Ludham venue.
Eight Wheelers left Erpingham, heading out past Wolterton and Mannington Halls to Saxthorpe, Tyby, Guestwick, Wood Norton, and, by request, the notorious Watery Lane, before descending to the always welcoming cafe at Guist P.O. and shop. Over alfresco refreshments on the patio, the talk turned to the nature and purpose of weekend club runs. In the true tradition of North Norfolk Wheelers, one member managed to coax a free meal out of the proprietor.
The return route was via Bintree Mill and the lanes to Foulsham, Jordan Green, Whitwell Hall, Booton and Cawston to the split at Oulton Heath, from where some turned east and some continued to Itteringham, Squallham and Barningham Winter for the final parting of the ways.
Brian, David C, Geoff, Graham, Harvey, Malcolm, Robin and Trevor had a good day on the cog, undaunted by the impromptu rearrangement.
The conditions were excellent for cycling. Cool with sunny spells, headwind out and tailwind home.
PC to PC: 60 miles/ Max: 71 miles.
