Holidays and domestic duties threatened to seriously diminish the size of the bunch this weekend. However, the long overdue return of former merchant mariner Ian ‘Blue Moon’ Fletcher (IBM) and wiry superveteran tester Guy Thorold, fresh from his Algarve training camp, lifted the numbers back up to half a dozen for the club run to Gressenhall Museum.
Pushing into a fairly heavy headwind, the Wheelers went by way of Cawston, Brandiston and the Witchinghams, descending to cross the Wensum at Lenwade, before following the more sheltered valley through Fustyweed and Bylaugh to Hoe and the refuelling break in the shelter of the courtyard of the former workhouse at Gressenhall.
After the break, the reward for the morning’s hard graft was a strong wind up the rear mech, via Woodgate, Elsing, Primrose Green, Greensgate, Weston Longville – (passing the now closed Parson Woodforde), Attlebridge, Felthorpe, Eastgate and points east to the split at Tuttington. One rider had to turn back south westwards into the wind and consequently got a soaking from the approaching band of heavy rain.
David, Guy, Harvey, Ian, Malcolm, Trevor.
