Seven Wheelers left the Erpingham pick-up point on a bright fresh morning to follow a quiet route by way of Barningham Green, Edgefield, Stody, Brinton, Clipstreet, Binham, Wighton and Warham to the refuelling break at Nelson’s Cafe, Wells.
Recently there have been a number of reported sightings of Scott and then, all of a sudden, as we waited to be served, there he was, accompanied by his minder, Chris. Scott has shown amazing mental resilience in suffering seemingly interminable health problems over the last few years, culminating in stem cell treatment last August. There can be no doubt that cycling with North Norfolk Wheelers contributed significantly to the physical resilience which has helped him through his ordeal. It was great to see him back!
The return leg was traditional, the familiar route to Langham, Wiveton Downs, and Kelling Heath, before turning more south easterly to return to Erpingham after a two way split at Baconsthorpe. The forecast rain arrived at about 2.10 but was never particularly heavy.

Now approaching the veteran stage, club captain Malcolm is riding as strongly as ever and continues to be one of the mainstays of North Norfolk Wheelers’ club runs. Malcolm suffered broken bones on both occasions from the appalling coincidence of bad crashes in the first week of July in both 2015 and 2016, displaying great fortitude in coming back stronger each time.
