NN Wheelers at the CC Breckland Open 10m TT 4/3/17

On Saturday four club riders Charlie Nurse, Nigel Walsh, Andrew Knowles and Mike Padfield enjoyed Spring-like conditions in their first open event of the season.  Although not a particularly fast course it is an enjoyable course to ride from Hingham to Carbrooke and back, on nice smooth roads with little traffic.  There are a few undulations and it has a nice long straight and fast downhill section towards the end.  It is a surprise it is not used more often in open events.

Slowing down progress on the way out was a bit of a cross-headwind, but obviously helping on the way back.  Bruce Williams was propping up the traffic lights near the Carbrooke roundabout and encouraging us to bike a bit harder.  I was looking forward to his possible comeback this season, (maybe next year?).

The event was won by Lloyd Chapman  of Banks – C C Catford – Equipe in a new course record of 20.18 (he has a PB of 18 something..).  Charlie was third and fastest VET A with 21:22 indicating he is ready to better his times this year in possibly his last racing season.

Nigel was pleased with his 25:08 making him the fastest VET E rider on the day.  Mike did a 23:17, which was 30 seconds up on last year at the same course. Andrew Knowles did a 23:35.

A mention should be made of John Swindells who towed his TT bike behind a touring bike from home (North Walsham) and back.

CC Breckland were great hosts as usual with good organisation and cakes at the end.

Full results attached.

Two Important Dates (reminder)

AGM 2017 – Wednesday 11th January 2017
This year’s AGM will be held at the Sheringham Community Centre, Holway Road (opposite Childs Way) Sheringham NR26 8NP, on Wednesday 11th January 2017 at 19:30.  We hope you can join us that evening to review 2016 and talk about how we see the future for our club. If there are any particular issues that you would like raised please drop me an email (nigw@btinternet.com) and I will include these on the Agenda.
Annual Awards Dinner – Saturday 21st January 2017

This year’s annual awards dinner will be held at The Links Country Park Hotel in West Runton, NR27 9QH on Saturday 21st January 2017 at 19:00. All are welcome – first and second claim members and their partners and any ‘friends’ of the club (e.g. people who have time trialled with us or joined us on our club rides who are not yet members). We have the usual function room at The Links this year so we will have more room to socialise than last year. I will also try to persuade them to put on a barrel of proper beer for us! Checkout the festive menu at http://www.links-hotel.co.uk/events/festive-christmas-menu/ and drop me an email (nigw@btinternet.com) with your selection as the hotel needs the orders in advance (I will keep these to remind you what you chose!). Could you also send me £22.95 per head by cheque (made payable to Nigel Walsh with your name on the back) to 9 Seacliff, Sheringham NR26 8BS, or ask for my account details when you email me your order and send the money by EBACS.

2017 Time Trial news

The 2017 TT programme is now on the website.  Note the return of the 100m TT on the 20th May and a few amendments to timings.  All the 2016 results are now also listed.

Club fun day news

Unfortunately, Chris has had to cancel tomorrow’s Fun Day TT on safety grounds due to the forecast of wet weather. For those still keen to have a go we have a 15 mile TT on Sunday morning (from Aylmerton) when better weather is forecast.

The rest of the Fun Day program will continue as advertised – we don’t plan to let a bit of rain put us off completely! The Club Run will leave Pretty Corner lay-by a little earlier at 10:30 and we will get back to PC Tea Rooms at 15:00 for mountain bike malarkey and a bite to eat.

Sorry to let those down who fancied a first go at the TT but I’m afraid that rain and time trialling don’t mix well.

Club Day 10th Sept

Don’t forget it is the NN Wheelers Club Day on 10th September.
A range of activities comprising time trial at 9am at Pretty corner on road bikes, followed by an impromptu club ride at 11am with lunch stop -(distance and venue dependent on weather and numbers), mountain biking in woods at 3pm, afternoon tea and social at Pretty Corner Tea Gardens at 4pm (optional booking of special offer food deal) (see Nigel Walsh‘s email, dated 10th Aug).  All day parking if required at the main Pretty Corner Woods Car Park.

Inter-club 10m Time Trial 30/8/16

BE A FILM STAR!

BE A FILM STAR! (for a night)

This is a call for volunteers to ride their bikes at Foulden (IP26 5AD) 5 miles south of Swaffham for a BBC film on Toad crossings. We can claim back fuel expenses and will get refreshments. The filming we be on 27th and 28th February from 6 to 10pm each night. We can have a couple of people in club jackets, but no large advertising logos (although Im guessing the logos wont really be visible anyway!), bike lights will be needed and warm clothes if we have to sit about. We need a minimum of 6 people each night, so will limit it to 10 volunteers per night, which will allow for any last minute changes.

Please can I have volunteers for one or both evenings, fine to bring partners (non-club members etc) by next Tuesday? (first come first served basis). I will confirm when we have enough takers.

Thanks

Mike
