Club Run to Pensthorpe Wild Life Park – 16 July 2016
In complete contrast to the previous week’s diabolical weather, hot warm sunshine with little wind, greeted these Saturday riders on their journey down to Pensthorpe Wild Life Park.
However, with not a cloud in the sky one club member was surprised when what appeared to be rain, fell upon him. It was in fact a farmers irrigation system spraying water a little too near the road for comfort.Going an unconventional route, we rode from Pretty Corner to Thwaite Common and then to Ingworth to pick up another club member. Then it was on to Silvergate, Oulton Street, Tyby, Guestwick, Nethergate, Hindolveston and then Kettlestone. Memories of the previous week’s torrential rain came back to life for a short while as we crossed the path of our previous route.
The café was its usual busy self and we had the pleasure of sitting outside basking in unbroken sunshine. Then it was time to get back on the saddle for the homeward run.
The return was via: Little Ryburgh, Stibbard, Wood Norton, Foulsham, Pettywell, Reepham, Booton, Abel Heath, Aylsham, Calthorpe, Wickmere, Thurgarton,Bessingham and finally, Pretty Corner.
At Aylsham, a chance meeting took place with Robin Rush in a van with a mobil workshop in tow.
On the way back to Sheringham rain yet again could be seen in the distance falling in torrents on Cromer but for once we managed to miss it and only had puddles to contend with.
This was one of those days that cyclists dream of – clear roads, sky’s and good café.
Thank you one and all.
