Club Run to The Crown, Banningham. 5th April 2017. Leader, John Sharples.

Six met at PC for the ride to The Crown and three summer bikes were out to boot!  Quite rightly so, as the sun shone and the roads were dry.  Not a single puddle was seen all day.  Off we set towards Baconsthorpe, then past Little Barningham before turning east towards Antingham.  It was then south to nearly touch Swanton Abbot before turning for Tuttington and Banningham.  The wind was on our backs – and it was strongish, so we were there early.  Never mind, The Crown is a pleasant place to sit and Peter joined us for lunch.

The conversation was varied – it’s amazing how many topics you can cover in an hour!  It was suggested that we are gentlemen who lunch, but pedal to get there.  This might be true, but there is effort involved and the wind that had helped us on the outward journey was now about to “up” the effort stakes.

The return was not direct as you can see from the map.  An excursion to Antingham and Southrepps added the miles but did not remove the need to head generally north-west into the stiff, north-westerly wind.

Folk left at various stages on the return, with only two returning to PC.  A very pleasant ride in good company, with the most-visited venue refuelling us well.

7 out.  40 miles PC to PC. No bike cleaning required.

Horsford 10m TT results 2/4/17

A nice sunny afternoon greeted the 27 riders on the only run out on this course of the year (VC Norwich run a few more later in the year).  With last years’ outing on the course curtailed by the curse of the TTLs (*temporary traffic lights) it was good that a) the road was open and b) we didnt have to ride in winter gear.

The first club TT of the year proved good for a number of riders who got course PBs indicating they are ‘up for it’ this season.  Charlie was on song again (even with a bit of hayfever) and took the usual honors with Simon Warren (Pedal Revolution) and Matt Ratcliffe (Iceni Velo) not too far behind.  Best on handicap also with a PB was Mike Padfield. Fastest lady was Christine Cooke of Godric.

It was good to see club member Paul Bailey and club secretary David Carrier giving a helping hand.  Thanks to the marshals, starters and timekeepers for making the event happen.

On the way home the course was blocked with a three car pile up (no-one seriously hurt) which would have stopped the race if it had happened an hour or so earlier.

Due to TTLs near Holt (now just removed) tomorrows race will be at Thursford.

EDCA Winner Charlie Nurse

The East District Cycling Association (EDCA) prize-giving awards ceremony for the 2016 season were held at Carbrooke village hall in late January.
North Norfolk Wheeler Charlie won awards for winning the EDCA ‘15’ and ‘25’ championships in 2016 and also included some awards for handicap improvement on standard.  Unfortunately for Charlie, he did not enter the EDCA ‘10’ or ‘50’ championships or he might have made it a clean sweep !  Charlie is getting his medals from Stewart Smith who is the CTT National Secretary for Competitions and Development.  He also has the fastest 15 mile time on record in the EDCA handbook with a 29:30.
