10 Wheelers met at PC for Kevin’s ride to Warham on a glorious Autumn day!
As we turned off Red Barn Lane and headed towards West Beckham we weren’t sure what Kevin had planned for us but as always it turned out to be a great route.
After crossing the A148 at Bodham we eventually reached Weybourne and then prepared ourselves for the climb up Holgate Hill to the Kelling Road. Then came Holt, Hunworth, Briston, Thurning, Guestwick, Bates Moor, Wood Norton, Stibbard, Fulmodeston, across the A148 again to The Snorings, The Walsinghams, Wighton and finally Warham after some 36 or so miles! A few miles from the pub Alban punctured (courtesy of two thorns) and 3 remained to help while the others carried on.
There was a good selection of pies and other delights (including beers for some) on the menu to give plenty of energy for the return leg and we enjoyed a pleasant hour in the sunshine before setting off.
After some 10 minutes or so of pedalling Malcolm realised that he had left his gloves at the pub and returned to retrieve them while the remainder of the group continued on to Binham. Malcolm made his own way back home via Binham, Bale, Sharrington, Brinton, Stody, Edgefield, Saxthorpe, Itteringham and Erpingham.
Meanwhile – after Binham the group followed a path via Binham to Field Dalling, Saxlingham, the lanes to Wiveton, then High Kelling and cross country to Geoff’s Corner with just 2 of the original group of 10 completing the circuit back to PC having lost riders along the way as they peeled off homewards.
Many thanks to Kevin and to the other Wheelers for the good company.
