Annual Awards Night 29th Jan 2021
Hosted by acting Chairman Nigel Walsh the awards night kicked off with a summary of club TT highlights of the season (see transcript below) followed by the virtual handing out of the trophies. The keepsakes this year were finely engraved wooden plaques, with the real trophies awaiting engraving whenever this is possible. This was followed by some lively chat on upcoming racing, comparing training (or lack of), lockdown haircuts and beverage preferences. Roll on the spring for some more club rides and TT action!

Highlights of the 2020 Club TT racing season
At the end of March we sneaked in one TT before Lockdown 1 – Three wheelers Graham Denny, Phil Watkins and Mike Padfield won the team prize at the early season Breckland 10m TT.
Our 2020 club events eventually got going in mid-July with our Pretty Corner 10m TT. After reading pages of the Covid rules, 30 riders got the start line ready for action. Guest Tom Roper led the pack with a 21.21 followed by local pro-triathlete Kim Morrison with a 21.27.
Next time out pro-triathlete Sam Proctor dipped under 21 minutes, with Jamie Sparrow on fine form with a 21.31. Sarah Jay was consistently faster than in 2019 and improved as the season progress. Phil Watkins had a good winters training and this improvement on 2019 led him to win the Zak Carr trophy (fastest on handicap) in early August.
The second outing on our new 25m TT course had notably with 8 riders dipping under the magic hour, not bad for a lumpy course with 7 roundabouts. Our acting chairman Nigel narrowly missed out on a sub 1 hour ride on our club course which he aims to put right in 2021 (hopefully!).
Next up was the wettest hilly tt on record which didn’t stop Joe skipper from smashing the course record with a 43.50. 6 riders either gave up or got lost in the rain! The following week Jamie sparrow dipped under 21 minutes on the Pretty Corner 10.
Road racer Kieran Jarvis got to the top of our hill climb first with a 2.03 with fastest female junior rider Mary Padfield.
Notable open TT results included two fast 50m TT rides at the East District Championships by Phil Watkins (1:50:12) and Mike Padfield (1:49:02), with Phil claiming 3rd fastest VET on handicap. Nigel Walsh placed 3rd fasted VET on an open 10m TT and Andrew Knowles completed a 12 hour TT with a distance of 238 miles.
With winter approaching, many people re-entered the world of indoor training, posting some top 10 results in weekly TTs and road races.
No amateur road racing happened in 2020 so we look forward to doing some races this year, at potentially the Fakenham criterium in April and Lotus road race series from May. The first club TT is hopefully at Pretty Corner on the 6th April if Boris lets us out to play!

Club Run to Coltishall 16 December 2020
Would the “Rule of Six” be sufficient to accommodate all those that wanted to join Malcolm’s ride on this pleasantly mild and dry but slightly blustery Wednesday? Easily as it happens because only two (including the leader) managed to meet at PC.
Our route was determined partly by the occasionally muddy roads and the wind direction so to take advantage of the latter on the return leg we made our way to Erpingham, followed by Ingworth, Aylsham, Burgh, Oxnead and Buxton. We stopped for refreshments at Dollies Bakery located in the Red Lion at Coltishall. As we parked our bikes Geoff P waved at us from a window so, suitably socially distanced and at different tables, we were able to enjoy good value food and drink inside the cafe before setting off on the return leg.
Geoff took the lead (just for old times sake) as we followed the lanes to St James and then the Great and Little Hautbois Roads along to Badersfield. Turning right at The Goat at Skeyton we made our way up the Blackhorse Road and at Skeyton Corner there was a parting of the ways as Malcolm headed off to North Walsham while the remaining duo pedalled towards Tuttington and thereafter Banningham and eventually PC.
Great to be out on a Wednesday Club Run again and hopefully there will be a couple more before we say farewell to 2020.

Wednesday Runs back on track
We have returned to the “rule of six” and for those missing the social side of things the Wednesday Pool of riders is active once more.
Same rules apply – no just turning up at PC, you must have opted into the Pool and therefore have received your weekly invite to join a ride. There will be a cafe stop for a takeaway if it can be planned in but otherwise bring your own refreshments. Details will be given in advance.
A polite reminder to prepare your bike for the winter (including lights just in case) and don’t forget your masks!

Club Run to The Corner Cafe at Mundesley 28 October 2020
We had our full complement of 6 on a bright and breezy day for Malcolm’s ride to the coast. We were hoping for no mechanicals today as we planned to arrive earlyish on what would probably be a busy lunchtime during half term week for this popular cafe!
The route followed a well worn path to Little Barningham where we turned left to reach Calthorpe and then Erpingham. At the top of Eagle Lane one Wheeler was keen to go straight on and take a risk with the (inevitably) deeply flooded lane. Our leader was less keen and took the Ingworth route to Banningham. From there it was the lanes to Colby School and then the Trans Norfolk Highway (aka B1145) all the way to North Walsham.
As the B1145 remains closed due to bridge repairs we followed the Lyngate Road to Bradfield and then onwards and upwards to Trunch before reaching our destination after some 24 miles! The Cafe was very organised and was thankfully able to accomodate all 5 of us (Andrew B not joining us due to an afternoon appointment).
The return leg was initially along the Coast Road but then cutting inland to Gimingham and Southrepps. The first split was at Northrepps with two heading off to Cromer while the remaining 3 pedalled via Crossdale Street and Metton to Sustead where Malcolm peeled off towards Hanworth and home leaving 2 to complete the circuit back to PC.
A great day out and great company plus decent weather. Lets continue to make the most of it while we still can!
