Four riders met at PC for a ride to Vera’s cafe, Stalham. It was a typical early autumn day, dry but a bit chilly.
The planned route went through Gresham (where we picked up Ian), Sustead, Aldborough, Alby, Suffield, Felmingham, Skeyton Corner, Westwick, Swanton Abbott, Worstead, Sloley and Low Street.
On arrival at the cafe we were escorted to the table that Mark had pre-booked. Drinks were ordered and arrived quickly. There was a good choice of food on offer with most opting for a light lunch as it was Chris’s birthday and he had kindly offered to buy us all cake! Sandwiches and soup were therefore the order of the day. There was a splendid choice of cakes and all participated (see photo). Topics of conversation ranged from cars, Chris’s birthday plans and the budget.

Despite the long lunch stop, as it was his birthday Chris decided to ride back with us rather than going for his usual fast training ride back. Just to humour him there were two stops to admire the view (see photo)!

The route back took us through East Ruston, Honing, Crostwight, Spa Common, North Walsham, Swafield, Bradfield, Antingham, Lower Street, Thorpe Market, Hanworth, Bessingham, Barningham and up Bodham Hill. Andy S split off for home from Hanworth.
To the authors disappointment there were no takers for the race up Bodham Hill to the pylon, (victory was assured), where Ian then left us for home. The remaining three rider then rode back to PC.
Overall a good ride in fine weather, with excellent cakes. Many thanks Chris.
Our last visit to Vera’s was on Sat July 26th 2025, we sat outside. Planned venue was Smallburgh Crown, when we arrived it was closed for holidays.
PC to PC was 54.2 miles at an average 14.6 mph (15.2 Out, 14.0 Back)
